What We Collect

Cooked does not require accounts, logins, or personal information to use. The product is designed for anonymous public access.

  • Search queries: Logged for debugging and prioritization (e.g., to know which politicians to add better data for). Logs are retained for operational analytics and are periodically purged.
  • IP addresses: Never stored in plaintext. We generate a one-way hash (SHA-256 + daily rotating salt) for rate limiting only. The hash cannot be reversed to your IP.
  • Page views: We use aggregated request metrics from our hosting and database providers. We do not build personal user profiles or sell personal data.

What We Don't Collect

Advertising

Cooked does not run third-party advertising and does not embed ad networks.

Data on Politicians

All politician data displayed is sourced from official US government databases (FEC.gov, Congress.gov, LDA.senate.gov). These are public records. Cooked does not alter those filings or vote records.

Donor & Contributor Data

Cooked displays individual contributor names, employers, and occupations from FEC filings. This information is already part of the public record at FEC.gov. We aggregate and present it for transparency purposes. If you are a contributor and have concerns about the display of your publicly filed data, contact us via the GitHub repository.
